FIRST AID ESSENTIALS

All horse owners should have some essential supplies and a well-stocked first aid kit available for emergencies. Consider having a separate kit for the barn and trailer, and a small wound kit to take with you on trails.

Antiseptic cleaner (novalsan, betadine)
Wound dressing- nonstick sterile pads (i.e. Telfa)
Gauze pads, roll gauze
Triple antibiotic ointment (Neosporin), zinc oxide
Leg wraps-quilts, standing wraps, cotton wool
Vet Wrap
Adsorbent cotton or disposable diapers
Vaseline/petroleum jelly
Thermometer
Latex gloves
Bandage scissors (rounded edge)
Epson salts, hoof poultice pads
Fly Repellent (i.e. Swat)
Clean fly mask
Saline eye wash
Phone numbers for vet, farrier, hauler, emergency contacts

Some medications can be obtained from your veterinarian and kept on hand. Please refer to dosing instructions and call us first before administering.
